Title: Valiant L11 wire broke off flush Post by: ka4koe on February 22, 2014, 05:21:07 PM I was cleaning up the connections on L11 prior to installation of the new bypass caps, C47 and C48, when the little tiny wire on the bottom broke off flush with the wound coil body. I assume the wires are held in place with cement of some sort. Is there a away to find the end of the coil wire, unwind about a turn, and resolder it to the bottom lug? Or, am I up a creek without a B+ choke?

Sometimes with a magnifying glass you can find the broken end piece. Then using an X-ACTO knife or a razor blade, you can release a turn to make a new connection. Burnish the wire end before soldering and be gentle with the entire process. At this point, you really have nothing to lose. You either find the broken wire and fix it, unwind and rewind a new one on the existing form, or go buy a replacement.

When I go into "surgery" I have my halogen light on high power (one of those bench work lights that clamp on the bench) and a Opti Visor, head worn magnifying glass ...Amazing what I can see.. Saved me many times to see even a cold solder joint. Fred |
