Title: Fair to good USA signals on Ten today Post by: pe1mph on February 08, 2014, 11:36:40 AM Hallo AM Lovers,
Today more then 15 min. AM from the USA on Ten! This afternoon my wife and I saw the scating, Olympic Games on tv. Receiver on the background in our livingroom monitoring: 29.620 FM Repeater. ;D Hi, hi... I heard that station comming up, stronger and stronger... Therefore I walk to my studio and listen to 29000 in AM. I heard already a station talking around 16.00 hours by me. Later I had some qso's on TEN: 29040: N1EU, Barry, S4 to max. S9 29030: K1KW, Chuck, max. S9 +5 29030: PD4VOS, Jelmer, by me S2, had evenso qso with K1KW 29050: KB1??, ?, max. S2, sorry conditions dropping down! And I heard: 29040: ??,??, max. S2 talking with Mervin GW8TBG 29030: WA1HLR, Tim, max. S2 And some on 29000 and 29050 but very weak, sorry. While I type this (17.30 by me) I heard weak AM on 29000 & 29040. Signals are now very weak.... Thanks all for the nice qso on Ten, Henk, PE1MPH Dokkum, The Netherlands Title: Re: Fair to good USA signals on Ten today Post by: W1AEX on February 08, 2014, 03:27:54 PM I would agree Henk. It wasn't a spectacular day, but there were a few signals that rose to an almost spectacular level. I worked about half-a-dozen stations that were rolling in from Europe at S-3 to S-5, but then heard Mervin GW8TBG chatting with Rich - K1ETP. Mervin was touching S-9 + 10 dB at times with a signal that was towering over everyone else on the band.
I had a nice 25 minute QSO with him after he finished up with Rich and his signal held up very well. When Mervin and I finished, Nick VE2OWV called him and I caught about 3 minutes of the GW8TBG Labgear LG300 transmitter (813 final) being heard here at between S-5 and S-9. Note that the LG300 is a "manly" transmitter so that explains why it was heard so well today! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qiSozIalGKA Anyone who has not seen Mervin's impressive collection of equipment should take a look at his QRZ profile photographs. He has restored some beautiful pieces of history! http://www.qrz.com/db/GW8TBG At any rate, in spite of the mediocre conditions I managed to spend about 2 hours on 10 meters today with no regrets! Henk, I did copy you at around S-7 the other day when you were speaking with Chuck. 73, Rob W1AEX Title: Re: Fair to good USA signals on Ten today Post by: Todd, KA1KAQ on February 08, 2014, 06:36:31 PM I heard K7UQ calling CQ from Idaho an hour or so back on 29.000. No aerial for the band, so I couldn't answer. Decided to cannibalize the 15m dipole tomorrow and convert it to 10m with new legs. Can always use the 40m for 15 too.
Weird thing is, when I switched past 11m with the Mohawk rcvr, it was roaring with activity. But 10 is silent. Title: Re: Fair to good USA signals on Ten today Post by: Steve - K4HX on February 08, 2014, 09:35:18 PM The upper HF bands are staying open longer. Just heard a ZL on 15 meters and the FT5ZM Dxpedition (about half way between Africa and Austalia in the Indian Ocean) is booming in on 20 meters.
JAs were weak on 10 and 15 earlier though. SN going up in recent days. Over 200 today. Title: Re: Fair to good USA signals on Ten today Post by: Steve - K4HX on February 09, 2014, 12:40:07 AM 14185. Got 'em in two calls. Quite loud. Probably could have worked them on AM. Reunion Island coming though nicely too. That was quite a few hours ago. ZL-land is all over the band now.

I was listening on 14.185 between 9 and 11 tonight and all I heard were U.S. stations working a bunch of stations in Bulgaria (tag-team contacts - i.e. listen for my friend, etc.).
