VE3NCC, Craig was running TZ-40's mod by '20's I think.
Last I heard. Think he's upgraded his call too but it's been awhile.

Wow! That's a good memory Rick. I was thinking that I had talked to someone in the past using one or both of those tubes. I think it may have been Craig.

Since the T-20 is essentially a type 10 on steroids, and will do enuf RF to be worth the work, I was thinking of putting together a Jerry Gross-esque transmitter down the road.

I have the tubes stashed, and most of the vintage parts on hand.

Not 1929 early, but done up in mid '30's style.

Steve et. al., I'll look in the log and see if I recorded more of Craig's lash up. Sure at least about the TZ-40's.

Found one mention, 14Aug. '94.  3880kHz, 180 watts AM from my Shoebox 813 rig (811a's)
Craig running Pair of 813's mod. By pair of TZ-40's.  All run with common 1600 Vdc supply.
A note also about "Judy, no code." Fwiw.

Yeah, I think a PP pair of '20's link coupled mod by a pair would make a neat  ol' buzzardly rig.
Don't forget the round meters with arrow pointers.  ;D

I have a nice HB rig that runs a pair of T-20s. Puts out about 120 watts

I spy an RK-34 doing the mod duty there.

Do you know who built this rig?

Wonder how many times the builder or anyone else who used that transmitter bumped into that feed-thru insulator on the front panel while tuning it up? And that's not an 815, or at least not any 815 that I've ever seen, the glass on that tube is shaped a lot like an 807.

Maybe one of those Hytron dual tubes?

I put it there. If you look closely it is a dummy. The builder had the SO239 on the front, something I cannot stand the look of   8)

Oh ok, I saw what looks like a set of wires off the side that have an SO-239 soldered to them and that the insulator was disconnected, but I figured you did that so that there wasn't any exposed RF on the front panel.

Fascinating construction. Upside down IF can used for a tube shield and  neat sideways mounting of crystals, etc.  Looks like plugging those crystals in and out has bent the Osc. Plate coil more than once. Maybe turn the assembly around with a trap door facing out the side for easier crystal changing?  Nibbling a square cut into the side rail a ways won't hurt.
Like to hear that baby on the air.

There's a front panel 1/4 in. Drive, variable link coil w/ plug in jack on eBay now, but add'l shaft and knob would upset the present front panel symmetry.

Really nice, period front panel. -Black wrinkle supreme..  And the insulated antenna out could be hooked up. Hey, what's a few hundred RF volts anyway?  ;D
