Title: 10m AM Post by: KK4XO on October 24, 2013, 07:48:27 PM The recent increase in solar activity has really caused a corresponding increase in activity on 10m! Today was exceptional with OH1TX, K1KW, W0FD, AA8DK and WA1HLR among many others heard here in south Florida. I hope to join in the fun soon with a Valiant II transmitter soon-to-be on-the-air in another few weeks.

Very weak sigs and heavy QSB on both ends. I gave Tak a 3x3 and he gave me a 4x4. We basically exchanged info and that was it. No time to chat; I think we worked just before propagation died between us. He was in contact with someone else stateside before I worked him but I couldn't hear the other person (and I hope I didn't step on him when I called the JA). I was using my B&W and Hallicrafters gear and Tak was running 50W from a TS480HX; both of us were using 3 elements yagis. So, got my first JA on AM in the log, but I'm looking forward to another when we can actually chat a bit. I heard him last night around the same time but he was riding right at my noise level and then faded away. He was the same station I worked on Thursday. For our modest stations, it was a good catch. The contest has SSB stations filling the band from 28400 to 29500...Lots of Europe this morning and 2 stations out of Svalbard....UK working Western US on 29100 now. Another station told me I had too many sidebands. ;D It's fun to operate in a DX contest on AM.
