Title: A question about capacitors

When a person recaps a piece of gear should you always replace the capacitors with the same type you take out? Such as should a ceramic cap always be replaced with ceramic and mica with another mica?  Or has the process of making capacitors improved enough that other type are better in certain situations? I see the orange drop capacitors praised as something like the gold standard for capacitors, when and where should those be used and where not to put them. 

I think that is enough beginner questions for now.
