Title: 10 AM Great Opening East Coast to Europe
Post by: W1AEX on October 07, 2013, 11:50:35 AM
Amazing signal from Frank - I5KAP running 5 watts with his Heathkit Lunchbox CB-1 that reached as high as S-7 this morning into Connecticut. In the audio sample below he tells about a contact he made with Pete - W1VZR while using his 500 milliwatt walkie talkie. I'm seeing several signals above 29.000 that looks promising right now.

Wow, I guess its time to get out my lunchbox again Rob. Mine only squeezes out about 1/2 watt or so though. Rob, we might hook up on 10 again soon. I am taking off the rest of the week so could show up on 10 during the daylight hours and should see you  in Deerfield this weekend.

Sounds good Larry. I try to check 10 meters and 15 meters from around 10AM until noon. Definitely dust off the little Heath lunchbox rig. I think a lunchbox to lunchbox contact across the pond would be something really unique.

Joe W1AIU and I are going to caravan up early Friday morning (taking off a little before 5AM) if you want to join us. We will probably use 52.525 for our traveling comm frequency and will meet up at one of the rest stops along I-84. Let me know if you want to join the mule train.

Ok Rob, I want to leave early as well. I usually stop at the TA at exit 71 or at the Charleton stop on the Mass puke for breakfast. I can be on 52.525 ok, look for me today testing the system. 10 was dead to EU yesterday here, only heard some weak sigs from South America. The lunchbox is on the air, crystaled up for 28.992. I did  not rig up the vfo yet.
