Title: Berryville, Va. Hamfest
Post by: K4RT on August 04, 2013, 06:30:54 PM
Nice sunny day for the Berryville, Virginia hamfest. I found some needed parts. In the photo my friend Terry K7MPP is looking at an SX-110A - I think it was priced at $150. I only had my phone to snap a photo so the quality is not the best.

I didn't go to this one, but my girlfriend's dad went, he got a fairly good looking Zenith Transoceanic and a few other things there.

My friend and I tailgated again this year and sold most of our stuff.  It was a great hamfest overall with a very nice selection of old radios.

The weather was gorgeous, and the drive down from York PA through the mountains with the different fog layers provided some breathtaking views.

It looks like a SX-101A. They never made a SX-110A. The SX-110 was general coverage.

Pete - I think you're right, SX-101A. I should start collecting Hallicrafters so I can become familiar with their gear.

We ran into a little fog on the drive over to Berryville, but it was mostly burned off by then. I do enjoy the mountains. Last week my XYL and kids drove down to Asheville, NC for some hiking and rafting. It was worth the drive on I-81 and I-26 just for the mountain views, especially in the Smokies. The hiking excursion put us within 15 miles of Sevierville, TN so we made a brief stop at Ten Tec heading back to NC. Very nice folks there. By the way, while in Asheville, I had the best biscuits I've ever tasted. The grits were good, too.

I hope you had some good Country Ham and Sausage gravy to put over the biscuits!  We have the Country Ham shipped up from Tennessee each XMAS.  Can't buy anything even close to it up here.  In fact they don't even know how to slice it. My wife is from Cookeville, TN and we often used to stop at Ten Tec on way over on RT-40.  When I had a business years ago, they did all my cabinet and silkscreen work for me.  Excellent to do business with.

Sounds like the Hamfest was a good one.  We have the Reading Hamfest up this way on Saturday.  The big Kutztown Radio meet is in the Fall and thats a very good one.

Joe,

No Country Ham this time, blackberry jam.

Kutztown, Shelby and NEARfest are on my hamfest list.  So maybe I'll make it up Kutztown way one of these days.

We should see you at Fall Nearfest if all goes well.  Martha and I are planning to make the trip.

That's my 5-year-plan hamfest list. Probably won't make it to NEARfest this year. Have fun.
