Title: Optimum Turn-To-Turn Spacing for a Flat Wire Coil
Post by: aa5wg on May 08, 2013, 08:12:08 AM
Hi to all,

I read the optimum turn-to-turn spacing for a coil is about the diameter of the wire.

What about flat wire that is wound broadside to the coil form?

Thank you,

Chuck

The spacing should be no less than half the diameter, wider is better. Length to coil diameter is also important. Look at the B&W tanks plus various QRO amps using flat strap for 6-10-15M.

If T is thickness and W is the width dimension across the face of the wire, the minimum spacing is usually the W dimension.

What if the flat wire is 1/16 inch thick and 1/2 inch wide?

Thickness doesnt matter.

Also asking the same question on several forums at the same time doesnt help.

Carl,

I agree about double post.  I must have been clicking the mouse to fast.
