Title: AM and RF speech processor
Post by: IN3IEX on March 02, 2013, 11:37:33 AM
Are RF speech processors good for AM?
Yes, I have the HV negative peak limiter, I am looking for more punch.
Any suggestion?

I consider audio processing a potential improvement to a voice ("phone") signal, and AM is where I've used a wide variety of processors.

I have not tried any software applications such as the one you've linked.  I read through the description and it looks like they would accomplish what I would consider an improvement.

The difficult part for me would be figuring out how to "install" the computer in the audio chain so the application could have its effect.

By the time I adapt, modify and configure levels and impedances, and take steps to mitigate any RF contamination of the signal path, I might as well buy a ready-made bit of hardware suited to the job.

Running on windows I have to assume there is some delay in the processing
software, no? and is limited to 4.8 KHz

It would be limited by your soundcard sample rate ( up to 192khz )

And yes, there would always be latency created by processing and soundcard.

Actually I was referring to the dxatlas voice shaper software
mentioned above
a second look at the specs reveal a 5.7 KHz cutoff

Eham has interesting and positive reviews of Vshaper

I am going to buy a USB audio interface for proper shielding of the analog part.

I will test with interest.
