There supposedly is a Central Florida net on 50.4 Wednesday at 8pm or 8:30...
I will be listening tomorrow from Sarasota. Never heard anyone, but I didn't have a good antenna.

Gil.

Sad to report that the Central Florida 6m AM net was dropped about 2 - 3 years ago in favor of SSB among the participants. They moved to 50.300 MHz slop bucket. That was when I dropped out. If anyone wants to revive the AM net - maybe we can start it 60 minutes before that 8 pm SSB net I will be glad to participate once I get my 6m station reassembled here.... anyone else?

Bry,

Not sure if you followed-up with Dave (WA4BWO).  Dave and I have been rag chewing Sunday evenings on 50.4 AM.  Are you still interested in reviving the AM net?  Let's give it a try if you can.

To any and all Die Hard VHF AM'ers ...

:D Please join N4JOY and me (WA4BWO) on 50.4 AM Sun nite at 6:30 (EL97)...
... or persist on the calling freqs for 6 M 50.110 and 2M 144.210. I'll be listening to both all day long Starting January 5th, 2015 at 10 am. (SSB)

If you want to call on other frequencies, please email me at WA4BWO@gmail.com or WA4BWO@arrl.net.

Thanks and let's revive VHF AM again.

ps:  If you need help in restoration of your older AM equipment like Gonset, Heathkit, Ameco or the like, email me and we'll either help you through your own restoration or do it for you at a minimal cost. BUT PLEASE, by all means, get in touch with me. We're starving here on VHF and any participation would be great.

Informal "gentleman" agreements reserve 50.1 to 50.125 for DX stations/contacts. 50.125 is typically the SSB calling frequency. 144.200 is considered the SSB calling frequency.

Typically, on 6 meters, running 50 watts with maybe a 3 element beam at 30 or 40 feet up at average band conditions, will give you a ground wave range of about 40 to 70 miles. Higher power, bigger beam and/or higher elevation, will increase that range. But, given the sporadic openings in recent many months, 6 meters in any mode is more of a crap shoot. If you happened to be on 6 meters this past Sunday morning at around 2AM, there were reports of an U.S. opening to XV4(Vietnam). Several stations in the Eastern and Central U.S. reported working the station. Prop map showed propagation was over the North Pole. I always miss the unusual stuff.

There is a growing group of am'ers on 50.4  around here. It happens on Wednesday evenings around 7:30 pm local time. I don't know if it is a "net" or whatever. I am hearing calls from CT, VT, MA, NY so far. Last net I heard:

W1VD
N1WRG
K2ORS
K1REX
W1CKI
WA1OXQ
K2AEP

There are others that check in, this is a partial list.

Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana tri-state area:
TUESDAY NIGHT ON 2 AM activity net
144.265Mhz, starting at 8:30PM.
Cliff, WB8LNG is net control. He starts taking check-ins with a big-wheel omni, then he switches to a beam and calls out by cardinal directions.
There's usually between 3 and 6 folks who are regulars, we sometimes get more.
Cliff will help coordinate longer distance contacts to help people get their yagis pointed in the right direction, I've made some 120+ mile QSO's on 2M AM through this net.

If you're near or along the ohio/indiana border, I'd give this one a try.
