Title: VALIANT WITH NO OUTPUT ON 20,15,10
Post by: KB5MD on December 05, 2012, 12:33:26 AM
My Valiant has full output on 160-40 but absolutely nothing on 20-10.  I know there is a world of info on this site concerning Valiants but I can't seem to find anything about this problem.  Has anyone else had this problem ???  The plate current and grid current is there, just no output.

Do you have grid current, buffer current, plate current? Did you check the band to band VFO switching underneath the chassis? If that's not aligned properly, if can screw up various band operations. Did it ever work?

Blowing compressed air into defective areas of the keyboard can clean out any crud. You could also use an emoticon  ???

Listen for the fundamental and harmonics on a receiver. If nothing its in the VFO, otherwise circuits that follow.

I am going to also suggest the Rotator under the chassis. Its probably slipped on its shaft or the pin is not kicking it over.

Word of caution.. Dont ever lay the valiant upside down without extreme care.  If you pull the front panel away from the chassis, the VFO coupler will break.  If it does, You have a mountain of work ahead of you to get to it for a fix..

I set the valiant on its side.  Heavy transformer down.  Never on its back.

Same thing is true with the Ranger.  If that switch cam under the chassis is out of place or reversed it won't work on all bands.  Been there done that.

He said it worked on 40...

As an FYI: a Valiant will triple the 160M VFO signal
to 40. I have one on the bench now with all that "Linkage"
loosened up because it is FUBAR. Switching the VFO
by hand to 160/80 and setting the Band Switch to 40
yields plenty of Ig. Still audible in the bench RX but
of course the dial on the Valiant is all outta whack.
