Post by: N2XD on September 08, 2012, 02:43:04 PM
This is a shot in the dark.Does anyone know where I could get a copy of the 6bg6 to 807 mod for the rf driver on the Gates BC-1T?Thanks.John N2XD

Just guessing but isn't it just the same as the later BC1G 807 driver circuit?    I'm currently in the process of rebuilding a G and will have it on 160 this Winter.  I'm thinking it's circa ~ 1969.  If you can't find the G manual online, I might be able to get one to you.

I am not familiar with this mod, but both a 6BG6 and an 807 are 6L6 variants, so the conversion should be no more than a tube socket change, and maybe a plate cap change (if the size differs).

What Jim said..The 6BG6 and 807 are identical except for the basing.

Why do you want to make the modification. John?

The 6BG6 board looks like it went thru a volcano.I have the new board but it has more inputs than the old 6bg6 board.The3 BC1-T will be on 80 and 160 hopefully when I get done.

Here is the 807 audio driver schematic, with voltages written in.

This offers great insight into cathode biasing of small transmitting tubes for use as high voltage amplifiers.
per tube 3mA on the voltage stage and 21mA on the cathode follower. It would seem that as the cathode follower tubes age, one could swap the voltage amps for them and get the full use of both pairs of tubes. Not sure if that really works out but thanks!
