Title: QRP KB2RSK
Post by: KB2RSK on April 30, 2012, 07:21:09 AM
I had fun running QRP 5 watts from a Yaseau 857D  I was impressed as to the low noise level and the listening of weak stations that I would normally of missed from inside the shack with all the QRM running from appliances and neigborhood hardware.
The roof rack antenna  is just a 17 to 20 foot extension aliuminum pole used for snow removal from roofs  which I stood upright against a tree and ran 50 foot of coax cable to ( using the shield as the ground with about 40 foot of  # 14 insulated wire laying on the ground. I was getting any wheres from a 1 to 3 to 1 to 2 swr across the 17 meter Band.
The battery was a sealed 12 volt at 7 amps. I was able to receive and transmitt with this for about 8 hours running 5 watts of RF.
It certainly was fun to operate QRP
