Title: My good news today Post by: N4LTA on March 15, 2012, 02:23:59 PM I just got an email from the Feds (that normally is not good news).
They granted me an experimental license - WG2XCT - for 495 -510 Khz - 800 watts - 5 watts erp Looking forward to a solid state transmitter a la Steve - except maybe class D - I think I have heard Steve say that D and E are not much different at 500 Khz. It will be interesting to learn of your experiences down there. The two Drake RR-3 (marine variant of the amateur R-7) I recently repaired came standard with the optional (in the R-7) Aux-7 board programmed for the 500 Khz range with a selectable fixed channel crystal for the old maritime emergency frequency. Maybe it is time I apply for a permit to join the fun down there. Let me know when you're ready for a QSO. QRV on cw, QRSS, all digital modes and SSB. Some 500 kHz Class D ... and other 500 kHz stuff: http://www.w1vd.com/137-500KWTX.html (http://www.w1vd.com/137-500KWTX.html) http://www.w1vd.com/137-500Phasingexciter.html (http://www.w1vd.com/137-500Phasingexciter.html) http://www.w1vd.com/9505MF.html (http://www.w1vd.com/9505MF.html) Jay WE2XGR/2 Title: Re: My good new today Post by: N4LTA on March 15, 2012, 06:28:54 PM I'll do that Jay. I have heard your signal. I recently put a decent receive antenna for LW and am amazed at the DX that I have heard. AMfone - Dedicated to Amplitude Modulation on the Amateur Radio Bands
I put up a Clifton Labs active antenna and two of the CM chokes Jack designed and was just blown away by the reduction in hash and trash. I thought good NDB DX was 200 miles until the day I put it up. I heard three Canadians and one in the Bahamas that afternoon - also heard you and a station in Virgina as well as the NC station. My antenna won't be killer - thinking about a capacitive hat top loaded vertical 45 feet high or so loaded with a variometer. Got more work to do! Pat N4LTA |
