Title: Transformer Info needed
Post by: ve8xj on February 27, 2012, 06:21:26 PM
Hello guys

I have a transformer here that someone gave me and I want to get the specs on it . I know a lot of you guys are holding onto those old transformer catalogue for just this circumstance.

It is a Philips Electronics high voltage unit and it weighs about 75++lbs. For such a big transformer it has very poor marking . The posts are stamped 1 2 3 4 etc but the schematic and post layout and voltage markings are in tiny faintly visible paint
. I can read the low voltage primary side but am only 75% sure on the secondary side. I think it is 3000v at 800ma but not going to gamble .

825-232 , TFIRXO2YY, MIL T27A , I am 95 % those are the letters on there,as well there appears to be a Hammond # 64374. So looks like it was manufactured for Philips by Hammond.I have not been able to find any info on this so far online.

It came out of a 1kw Commercial transmitter. It is a rectangular black potted and completely sealed  and good to 200000ft ALT. I hope someone can shed some light on this for me.As well some suggestions on what tube /tubes would this best be used with on say 160/80m AM.
Thanks

You should test it at 200,000 ft just to make sure that altitude spec is accurate.  ;D

put 6.3 or 10 VAC on pins 1 and 2 and measure the other windings to get an idea of the turns ratio.
