Never more than 3 stations in the QSO at any one time, and no audible jammers or SSB hecklers. Only once, some slopbucketeer tried to drop some kind of sarcastic remark on top of the transmitting station, but he soon went away. Like a clear channel all evening.

I am smack in the middle of where most of the thunderstorm static in N America has originated this entire winter. The wx fronts have consistently passed through here from the west, from TX and OK, more like what we usually get in summer. Very few fronts have come down from the north to bring arctic air and quench the thunderstorm activity, which would be the more normal winter pattern. When not from right here, we get zapped from storms in the Gulf. Hello, Now 3813 khz in 'Memory' Kenwood R 5000. But often by me (Europe) higher rtty and 'noise'. So a little lower, +/- 3810 khz, is cleaner. I think we have had more static this winter than winters gone by. Probably because of the warming trend. Where my camp at Westport is located, Lake Champlain is almost five miles wide. It used to freeze completely and I could have drove across it in my truck. I often wanted to put up a rhombric antenna stuck into freeze holes in the ice. AHHH!!!! I tried loading my "short vertical" on 80 but no joy. I could get a signal out there but it became delegated to the "did you hear something" bin. I am working days now. 15 and 40 have been my AM haunts lately during the days I'm off. As for 80... I simply don't know. I need to get a mast up.... I need some Ham Radio Viagra! |
