Title: Squelch for the lunchbox Post by: GEORGE/W2AMR on December 27, 2011, 05:37:49 AM I recently ran across a copy of a mod from Heathkit to add a simple squelch circuit to the lunchbox. Although it was written for the CB-1, it should work on the 2er, 6er, and 10 er as well. E-mail to vikingvaliant@hotmail.com and I'll send it along.

Years ago a CB-er asked me to build a couple of CB -1 "Lunchboxes" for him. They had a little circuit of 2 resistors and 2 #47 bulbs (mounted on a terminal strip) and located at the speaker. As I recall it worked fairly well for what it was. I tried it on a 2-er, that I still have here, with the same results. Just wondered if your mod circuit is the same? This conventional noise squelch worked fine but it was 2 times more complex than the super-regen receiver itself!

Heathkit wanted it to be an economy radio so it was sold with absolutely no frills. Many of the mods were described over the years in articles in 73 magazine, which is now online in the public domain for non-commercial use.
