Title: Nice 75-80m Conditions
Post by: Todd, KA1KAQ on December 23, 2011, 12:02:27 AM
The last two nights have been quite nice on 75. A bit of static tonight from storms to the south, but not bad. Steve KC4SSB and a group are on 3.885 right now, a couple stations on 3.870, otherwise the band is pretty deserted (not counting a few SSB signals).

Where'r awl them big AM mauls???

Conditions continued to be excellent until signing off around 2:15AM or so this morning. Signals were big early (5:30-6PM) from the northeast with Bill/MPY pounding it at 50db over S9 at times. Richaroni/ETP was 40 over running 100 watts(!), and Al was coming down from NH at 30 over.

After firing the station back up just past midnight I was able to work Jean F6AQK with a lot of difficulty, though he seemed to be hearing me better than I was hearing him for a change. Then worked the Powerhaus of the South, the Ayatollah of Rock and Rolla, the Big HX with a 50-60 over signal (in fairness, he is only 120 air miles or so away). As Steve was signing out around 1:42 W3OKC jumped in and a bit later Al/VTP returned.

So even though the band seems dead at times, the log sheets keep filling up. The upcoming week should be an excellent time to burn a hole in the aether with some AM signals.

Thanks Brandon -

Conditions have been excellent as of late. Been hearing a lot of stations from 5 Land to 8-9 Land to 1, 2 & 3 Land, including a fellow in NJ on 3.875 who was running around 20 watts....in the evening!

Took the last couple nights off, might get back out to the radio room tonight. Still fighting off a chest cold from a few weeks back, and on cold nights the unheated garage isn't conducive to a speedy recovery.  ;)

The Heavy Metal Rally is coming up this Friday. An opportunity to hear a lot of cool rigs and great signals from all over the country!

Hope you had a nice Christmas.

Yes sir.

I just wondered how much better they work than a single Beverage.
