Last night, good conditions, no QRN....

Haven't been active in a few weeks.  Flu, work, travel, now a bad head cold...lots of stuff gg on in my job...was gg to try 160 last night but did not feel up to it.   

Last night was very quiet on 160...I checked 1885 several times between 9-9:30 @ the request of kd6os (OK) , W6isj (AZ) and others but nothing was heard...even the usual slopbucket hangouts seemed empty....I was on 1945 kcs with the locals and sigs were excellent and the band was quiet..I don't think the propagation was there...

I seem to ask myself that same question every night when I try to get on 160 or 75 after about 10:30 PM. Nocturnal emissions seem conspicuously absent even on QRN-less Friday and Saturday evenings.

OK, then...I'll be on tonight. 1885 at 1800-1900 Mountain. Maybe later after chow. WA0RCR is booming in here on 1860.

I am back on 1880 having finished repair of my Ten Tec Centurion, and find 160 doesn't start to get decent around here until 9 p.m. or 9:30 p.m. local time.  Have been working Mike KD8CVY, Budley, and last night Jay W1VD.   A few problems:  I have to pack it in not long after the band gets good due to either Nicad effect or work the next day, and there's some frigging nasty noise source that hangs right on 1880.  If the signals are strong enough (which happens about the time I QRT) they come in over it but earlier they mix in with the RFI and the signal quality goes to garbage.   Anyway that's the status of 160 here for January.  No storm static at least.

everyone seemed to be on 75, had a fairly decent sized group going on here on the east coast on 3875, and there was another group on 3885 that i'm guessing was further out west.

Want to try around 1887 this evening?  If so, let me know the best time.  1885 is a little too close to the group on 1880 for comfort, and given the sparsity of signals on the band, no point in crowding up next to each other when there is 15 kc/s of empty spectrum nearby. Hopefully the noise won't drift up-band as soon as you get on.

I listened on 160 last night.  Condx were extremely quiet; the only T-storms that showed up on the map were over the western tip of Cuba.  There was a weak AM QSO on 1880, but I couldn't read everyone, so didn't try to join in, and later on, answered a CQ on 3875. I think I got the Gates audio problem at least temporarily fixed, so I should be ready to go on 160.

Okay sure 1887 sounds FB.  I'll try to show up at 9 p.m.  It takes me a bit of time to move from 75 to 160.  I have to go outside and ground the mast holding the inverted L (it floats when I use the dipole it holds up one end of) switch tuners inside and so on.

okay.  That's right about the last hour of the Denver-Patriots game.  Thanks heavens for cable, DTV and CBS here going to a UHF channel.
