But what is the smallest powerwise tube, preferably triode, but any, with the highest plate voltage rating?? As in smaller than a 4-65 for example. More like the 6V6 class of tube, that being around 5-10 watts. Are there any that fit this bill? I suspect there are, but I can't think of any... the application is to swing enough voltage where voltage swing is needed, but not much power. _-_-bear PS. that they might also be available now, and not completely unobtainium would be nice too... :D Title: Re: Odd Q: Highest B+ *small* tube? Post by: Opcom on December 05, 2011, 10:06:38 PM I'd go for any of the smaller beam tubes designed for horizontal deflection output, with peak voltages of 4000-8000V. The rating is for 15us, but quite high continuous voltages are possible under controlled conditions. I have used a 6CD6 as a high voltage amplifier with 3KV on the anode and very low current appropriate to its dissipation.
Next, the 6BQ5 has been run in GG at 750V in a Wawasee linear amplifier. For purists, the beautiful little 20-watt Eimac 15E triode IIRC is rated 12.5KV. The 6BK4 triode can take 30KV, but define 'small' here on an AM transmitter site! There are also tubes like the acorn types that can be run pretty hot as self excited oscillators. Several interesting types with high voltage ratings are shown in the PDF attachment. For very small tubes, the subminiature types are interesting but their close element spacing precludes very high voltages. Title: Re: Odd Q: Highest B+ *small* tube? That's one of those where in the TV set the unused pins adjacent to the plate pin were left without contacts in the socket for added arc resistance.

Not sure that one is? At this point I have a few examples of some of the suggested tubes coming my way, so that is good.
