The dead of winter is often not as good.

Did hear some of that last night, but by the time I signed, 8:30PM EST, Bill had built to 20+ on the R1000, just amazing. It uses HV capacitors in series with each radiating element to adjust current distribution; the little Jennings vacuum caps I tried in August exploded. Fabricated some from 20 KV rated Teflon and they seem to be holding up.
Yes, it seems that 75 and 160 are the best in the spring and right about now, tending to get worse after Thanksgiving. One interesting thing I observed. Paul, W3GL and W3OKC had no better S/N on the NE aimed 700' Beverage than on the transmitting antenna. Usually, the Beverage is much better receiving W1,2 and 3 from here, but not last night. Actually there is a brief period in January when 75 goes long almost immediately after sunset and 160 goes long around 9 or 10 p.m. local time so during that period 160 becomes 75, 75 becomes 40 and 40 is long all the time like 20. So if you have an inverted L and a lot of radials 160 is pretty good. Actually before mine came down last week I was working out to Colorado on 160 in the early evening.
