Title: "Big Bill" Transmitter for sale
Post by: Bill, KD0HG on November 11, 2011, 08:22:36 PM
A good fried of mine, Jeff, KE0MT in Denver, wants to sell this transmitter before moving out of state.

Big Bill is a transmitter professionally homebrewed by a Voice of America engineer stationed on a (apparently lonely)  Pacific island during the 1950s. It came back to the 'states in several teak chests after his duty was over and ended up in Jeff's hands.

Beautifully built, with 270-degree meters. Wiring is that US Navy shielded stuff in lead tubing. Variacs on the DC power supplies. Pneumatic time delay relays (on front panel). Good for 24x7 duty at a kilowatt. This rig looks like it was made by the Krell- LOL.

A complete boatanchor design in good working order, the RF deck is a pair of 4-250s in class C modulated by a quad of 813s on P-P parallel.

Iron is mostly from RCA shortwave broadcast transmitters and loafing at a kilowatt output.

Transmitter is mounted on industrial casters, documented and ready to go on the air. No lids, no kids, no space cadets.

Asking price is $750, what Jeff paid for it before his complete restoration.  Buyer pickup in Denver, CO.

Eat your KW-1 hearts out.

PM me for more details and interest.
