Title: Another old AM BC TX comes apart to make more live... Post by: W7TFO on October 31, 2011, 09:33:21 PM A ITA 1kW rig from '63. By Bernie Gelman (SK). He had a long history in broadcast, being the same guy from RCA and CCA, hence the similarities between the different makers.
It ran 4 ea 4-400's in RF and mod service, driven by a 6146 in the RF side, and PP 12BY7's in the audio. Simple, robust & cheap, kinda' like an AK-47 rifle. I'm pulling it down tonight, saving the big iron for a project and offing the rest in ads here. If you see something in the photos you want, please let me know. Have a CCA AM1000D here. The same tube line-up as you mentioned. Seems to have very robust Iron, and like that the RF Tank Tank is completely sealed in an AL box. While all the 4-400s are in the same compartment, the isolation twix the RF input and output is quite good. Have considered modifying it from 160 only to a 160/75/40 Meter box, with Vacuum Variables and roller Ls or relay-switched RF Ls. It does look like a commercial Freezer, but a nice rig. So close to having most parts.. CCS style plate iron, the above RF parts coming from Dennis, a beautiful rectifier stack also from Dennis, large oil caps discarded by the Tesla folks as too low a voltage for their use, a dual 28A variac with concentric huge rheostat for setting the filament voltage, plenty of bleeders, meter panel, magnetic breakers (haha no fuses!). Crazy large 2000pF bread slicer loading cap. I have some questions but I'll post in the appropriate section. 8-) |
