DX-100 lost drive, switched to a recently acquired Ranger. Shorted LV diode fixed and 3 wire cord added. Should be on air today. Heard 9 land talking to VJB 2 days ago, not surprisingly I couldn't hear Paul. Converted 5/8 ground plane tuned and ready, butterfly beam going up next. On this side of the pond I heard US stations, e.g. N0AT & KB1H for example. Right on top of US AM activity. So much for the "AM Window". ::) Good luck with the TX and your antennas. I still had a nice QSO with K5ALX in TX until our signals faded.

I was in a a nice roundtable on 1886 kc/s last night. Some slopbucketeers popped in on frequency calling "CQ QuaRMtest" but they didn't stay long.

Had a 40 min chat with KC0FNS in Colo Springs just now, 29.040Mc. He was running 30 watts out of a TenTec Jupiter and was swinging the S-Meter toward 20-25 over most of the time. Whee ! I was his second AM contact this solar cycle, that was cool. I also talked to Mark - KC0FNS and a little later Larry - W0NDK in North Dakota, both on 29037. He was 25-over-9 by the time we signed around 2145Z. This is as high as I've seen the S-meter go on 10 meters this solar cycle! It does not only affect AM ops, but any radio amateur who wants a sensible QSO. I have no objection to contests, but lets make them worthwhile. Limit it to 10 watts and in certain segments of each band. It would then mean something.
I started off on 29.000 and gradually got pushed up the band, ending up on 29.150. I didn't even try 21.420 - it was full of screaming contesters. The 10M AM window is a unique piece of spectrum that deserves respect from ssb operators who have huge amounts of spectrum! Mind you, Tim, WA1HLR blew a hole in the window. I drove around mobile today hoping to find AM near 29.0 and gave up and made a few contacts with the QRMtesters well below 29.0. I got to get my tower back up with 4-el on 10m.

Worked several AM to SSB stations above 29 MHz during the contest. I was running 22 watts AM with the Flex. DX included 2 VK's, Brazil, Colombia, Hawaii, and several in the Caribbean. They either didn't know or didn't care that I was on AM.

Fired up the old S-line to check into the QCWA 20 M net yesterday. Could only hear 2 or 3 stations and 2 of those normally have great signals here. At one time had 2 contesters zero-beat on the net, both calling CQ Contest, and both not making any contacts. Even the few times I work a contest I at least listen on the frequency before I fire up. Of course, I'm not one who has the fantastic high scores; guess if I did what I wanted on whatevery freq I could do much better. AMfone - Dedicated to Amplitude Modulation on the Amateur Radio Bands
