Title: Where is the JOHNSON net's
Post by: Knightt150 on October 18, 2011, 03:15:51 PM
Hello to every one, I have heard the DX 60 the Collins, the Mighty Elmac the Drake and the Drake tech net's the Swan. With a gillion JOHNSON transmitters the RANGER the Valiant the Desk Kilowatt, and eth. WHERE IS THE JOHNSON NET, or have I just missed it. I do not plan to start one because I can't be there all the time but if anyone would let me know. 40m 20M or 75 would be a good place to start.

Rumor is that Johnson owners, unlike some other brands, do not require a net to get their equipment on the air.  ;)

Ain't gonna happen.

It would be like a FlexNet, where everyone would sit around and compare wood.

Flex Net: 2PM Sunday Eastern, 14.329 MHz. Far as I know, no lumberjacks have checked in but you're welcome to join us.

I thought Flex owners preferred plastic accessories.

Is the communications mode wholesome complete analog radiotelephone, or some sub-par distorted partial attempt?

I've never really understood the manufacturer brand nets--it makes more sense to me to have specific model nets--Ranger net, BC-610 net, T368 net and so on if there is going to be serious attempts at on-air help.  This only works if there are enough units out there in operation.  The Temco RA150 net would be a pretty small net.

My only problem with these user nets is that the AM window is already crowded.  Yet another "net" would serve to increase this congestion.  If you're not an "owner" or don't want to wait around for a LONG time to make a transmission on a directed net, then it's time to watch another repeat of NCIS or another TV show

Hi John.  Dunno about a Johnson net but I would love to work you with my Viking II.  Right now I can do 40 through 10 meter... 40 in the afternoon probably our best bet... sooner or later my 75 m vee will be up too.

I think the times we worked before I was on the DX-60 and you were on the Knight.

I'd be very careful about mixing flexing with johnson or flexing johnson.

I have a Ranger. That's right! I admit it, I have a small Johnson.  :-[ :-[ :'( :'( Out of shame, I bought a Thunderbolt.  ::) ::) ::)

It's probably just a faulty memory, but the Thunderbolt made the 32V seem light in comparison!

When it comes to Johnsons, there's nothing better than a big one. This one now resides at the Good Music Station, W3GMS.

Come on guys we are talking about a great classic radio, a teck net a social net or what ever. And by the way its E.F. JOHNSON a great company. We need to fill the airways with good AM sound any and every time we can.

You don't need a net to do that. Just fire up the rig and throw out a CQ or two. Nothing to it.

Nets are boring unless you like to talk once every hour and most don't remember what you said by the time they get a chance to talk. . As Todd said, call some CQ's or chase down some stations. Live a little!

Todd,

That Thunderbolt is a load, with 2 men to lift, it's still a gut buster.  ;D ;D

The Johnson net is best suited when located directly below the johnson

Well Al, I disagree, there is no one on 3.885 from about 10:00 AM every week day until about 6:30 PM. Even on Saturdays & Sundays you would be hard pressed to find anyone on from about 11 AM to 6 PM. 40 meters has better participation from about 8 AM till about 4:30 PM so a net there might be more successful IMHO. The bands are becoming a waste land. No one to talk to?? I call CQ when at the camp on 75 meters, nobody home! Must be my breath! On 40 meters someone seems to be there all the time.

Why doesn't this thread continue to grow?

Everything stops growing as it gets older.  I can attest to that...

However the other night several operators on 3885 had a pseudo Johnson Net.  Me and my Viking II, a 9 lander with a Viking II CDC, a fellow in WVA with a Valiant and another fellow with a rice box, but was putting the finishing touches on his Valiant II, making it ready to use on "real" AM.

Yea: Guys keep TALKING IT UP maybe someone will start that JOHNSON NET. I have a lot of line noise on 75, 40 is best but I can make it to 75 if I have to.

Then just set up the net outside the window.  Even if you have only a General, any frequency between 3800 and 4000 is fair game.
