Title: "K3ZRF" on 10M
Post by: WA3VJB on October 17, 2011, 08:41:24 AM
The Spirit of K3ZRF will be on 10 meters in the days ahead, as I hoist aloft one of the last projects he completed before he took ill and passed away.

It's a very well-constructed dipole with RF choke, coax-fed, and cut to 29.050.

We found it suspended from the rafters of Dave's workshop while we were taking inventory, and I felt I should take custody of it and keep/put it on the air as he intended.

So, just like people say "running a G5RV," I plan to say "I'm running a ZRF doublet" and let people scurry to their QST and try to do some shopping.

That's a very awesome and appropriate tribute Paul!  Maybe I'll get to work "K3ZRF" through you as proxy.

Last night on Coast To Coast, they had a lady who could find our dearly departed friends by tuning across the AM broadcast band. She somehow could pick them out between the different AM broadcasters as the dial was spun quickly up and down the band? Apparently, our pasted on friends liked the congested broadcast band!  Maybe we'll hear Dave on there one night??

I fancy that I already have heard him in there, between the stations, right as you suggest.

Something about running "15-THOUSAND WATTS"

Inaugurated service on 10m Sunday afternoon with "the ZRF doublet" about 50 feet up in the trees, fed with RG-213.

First contact: Amarillo, Texas. Second contact: near Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Power here 15.000 watts.

Thanks Dave ...
