Title: Raytheon RK-65 Tubes
Post by: KA8WTK on September 07, 2011, 07:58:22 PM
I have just been given a pair of Raytheon RK-65 tubes. What a classy looking bottle!
Filaments have continuity with no shorts between any of the elements. Haven't tried to light them as I don't think I have a fil tranny that would handle them. Glass is not discolored and they have sockets with them.
Can only find one fairly good tube data sheet on the web and so far have not come up with any suggested circuits or projects for them. The old handbooks I have (either coast) don't have anything much on them either. I think the Navy used them in a ship to shore transmitter.
Any one know anything else about them?

I've heard them described as 813's on steroids. Or 1 1/2 times an 813. Probably could be used in a similar way.

There is a guy on ebay offering a data booklet. It's cheap and might be worth getting.

Also, there are a couple rk-65s for sale on ebay. That's kind of unusual as they rarely come up. Maybe get a spare or two???

Looks a lot like the RCA 806! Just looked up an 806 and it's not like your tube not that any of this matters, but I wanted to correct my post for what it's not worth ;D ;D

But anyhow there is another OB tube out there that looks like it and I will find it someday.

Nice gift, Bill. Sounds like the basis for a good winter project?
