The Filaments are Lit....Yea...... :) Title: Re: What I'm doing on a Rainy Day... Post by: W2PFY on August 15, 2011, 08:34:02 PM 3 each 813's?
Title: Re: What I'm doing on a Rainy Day... Post by: WA1GFZ on August 15, 2011, 09:57:23 PM Nice job!
Gee, I had the day off so I ripped my HPSDR rig apart and dropped in bigger power supply modules so I can add a third receiver module. I'll never run out of juice again with 5 volts at 9 amps. Title: Re: What I'm doing on a Rainy Day... Post by: KA3ZLR on August 16, 2011, 02:57:17 AM Yup, three 813's I'm having an issue with the Rectifier board for Plate supply
not sure what's going on there. I'm thinking the step start is having problems.. But that's the fun of it when it's done it's done.. :) 73 Jack KA3ZLR Title: Re: What I'm doing on a Rainy Day... Post by: WD5JKO on August 16, 2011, 07:07:36 AM Jack, I am envious. First off it doesn't rain here; severe drought in central Texas. The last significant rainfall we got was from a tropical storm last September. Ok, the 813's look like they are getting impatient awaiting the power supply. ;D I wonder if you will run the tubes grid driven in linear mode? If so, I can see about 200 watts AM with a 20A driving the thing. The 813's will blush, but with forced air cooling, a 813 is good for about 70 watts apiece on AM linear operation. That is what I get from my Central electronics 600L (single 813) driven by a Retro75. Looks like you have had some domino diode failures. Those diodes seem to be two types. Any chance you want to share that circuit so we all can better understand why your having difficulty? Jim WD5JKO Title: Re: What I'm doing on a Rainy Day... Post by: KA3ZLR on August 16, 2011, 09:15:30 AM Hi Jim, AMfone - Dedicated to Amplitude Modulation on the Amateur Radio Bands
Well I hope you get some Relief soon we just got off a 3 week binge no rain and severe sun it burned my garden flat...it rained again last night I just come in from feeding the cats outside everything's wet.. The amplifier is grounded grid very simple it's the powers supply that's involved I put stepstarts in there and I think there's some issues. It has been sitting for about 5 years now and I don't have a 220 Variac I wish I did so I took a chance on plugging it in and turnen the knobs... the plate's just a 2000 volt transformer with a full wave bridge with step start on the input and a relay interlocks with another relay initiator inside the Amp box with a turn lock switch and it all has to work sequentially. it's all for safety and if the Op don't know the sequence it doesn't come on..this was built when my harmonics were little...had to watch out for 3 sets of Little fingers back then I was putting in 12 hour days at Estes Express. So, yesterday was the first time bringing it up and the Low Voltage 110 system come right up, Filaments lit, tested the safety resets for grid and Plate overload all relays worked just fine, initiated Plate voltage circuit and there was a snap and the tranny started Humming overload circuit clicked off and my safety system took over powering down, it was Great My safety checks worked... :) So I think Today I'm gona Order a whole new set of everything on the diode board and get to taking apart the transformer input relays and see what failed.. Hey thanks for the interest mine is very basic I took it from one of Bill Orrs books back then real simple basic 813 amp. but I added the safety interlocks. 73 Jack KA3ZLR |
