Title: Legacy parts supplies
Post by: Jim, W5JO on July 21, 2011, 04:45:52 PM
Need parts no longer available?  Try this site.  www.tedss.com  If you don't find what you want, go to www.rjcomponents.com

If you find it on RJ then call them and they will transfer over to the Tedss site and you can buy with a CC.  Has all sorts of out of production stuff including caps, ceramic switches and the like.  For the home brewer it can be a treasure trove.  The purchased all the AB carbon comp reistors when AB discontinued them.

Thanks for the links. With handy sources like that I can now empty some more storage shelves.

I always make it a point to stop by this place when I am out in Dayton:

Lots of parts and Good Company to deal with.  Fast email response and shipping. At least that’s been my experience.

As usual, points of view abound.

I feel comfortable around gear older than I (! :o).

Absolutely no interest in anything newer, I beat on it too much for a living.

I seem to be fixated on pre-war RX's and that vintage of home-brew TX.

Since none of that has been produced for a long time, it behooves me to find, buy, & hoard all I can for future enjoyment & operation of such things.

It also is my point of view that keeping old gear restored & running & out of recycling crucibles is easier on the environment than the overall load put upon resources from raw materials to hamshack for new gear.

I seriously doubt the impact of building a good RX in the '30's came close to that of an SDR with all the necessary accouterments shipped via air from foreign countries.
                                             ---and---
All menu-driven gear uses a bunch of electrons in terms of power as well, no bargain there.

Comfort; We find it in the oddest places..... 8)

Never make fun of another man's gun..... :-X

I've bought a bunch of stuff from http://www.oldradioparts.com/ It's a gold mine (and you do have to mine the parts lists) for vintage parts. Just make sure you follow the instructions on http://www.oldradioparts.com/pg17.htm (or else !).

Also, I've shopped in person at http://www.leedsradio.com/ in Brooklyn. Excellent !

Yessir ! Great place, a real time warp like the old surplus joints of our youth . Good place for hardware and high quality Teflon/silver wire.
