The 600L runs class AB2, grid driven. The Retro75 at 12V driving the 600L (with an extra 75 ohm load across the 600L input - important) will drive the 600L to ~ 70 watts AM carrier output with headroom for > 100% positive modulation. The 813 runs a dull red, and you need an exhaust muffin fan on the top to draw out the hot air. Good luck with your project! Thanks a lot for the info. I have a few 813's laying around so I thought I would make an amp for my Retro 75. Yea, it would be grid driven with a simple 80 meter link coupled input coil and 80 meter pi-net output circuit. I was looking for the 600L schematic just to get an idea of the operating voltages, grid bias, screen etc. I have never built a linear amp before because I have worked only CW. I am anxious to try the mods to increase the modulation of the Retro and use it to drive a linear. I was also thinking of completely disconnecting the stock modulation transformer on the Retro and connecting the 16 ohm output tap of my HI-FI Heathkit amp in it's place to get some HI-FI audio. I have been a ham for almost 60 years and love to tinker. Hi... I built a power supply that puts out 2KV@500 mA, 360V regulated for the screen and -100V regulated grid bias. I wonder if this a good place to start for the operating voltages for that amp? The screen voltage is probably a little bit low. Jerry, W8UJX |
