Title: New cheap HP SDR
Post by: w3jn on May 08, 2011, 11:30:54 AM
Saw this on eBay, $350.  Has dual inputs, 64 MHz ADC and AGC ahead of the ADC input.

http://cgi.ebay.com/SDR-MK1-Radio-Shortwave-Receiver-/260781004036?pt=Shortwave_Radios&hash=item3cb7c25504

More info here http://uvb-76.blogspot.com/p/sdr-project-mk1.html

Doesn't say what the sensitivity is, or if you can do diversity, simultaneous receive with the 2 inputs, etc.  However the guy's blog offers more information than most, and doesn't presuppose knowledge of cutesy codenames for boards, etc.

I think I'll wait until they are actually manufactured, and get some feedback from users.

Yes, quite.  The seller is in Estonia and I can't see too many people putting out $ 350 for a pre-sale item since it appears that between the 30 days to availability and the shipping and customs delays, you would lose your eBay Buyer Protection.

Maybe the lads will come out with one soon.

The "lads?"  You wouldn't mean the Nigerian lads, would you?   ;)

Yes, AGC before the ADC wud be nice. Either that or a good preselector. I need it badly with my HPSDR when the preamp is on above 40M.

I'm thinking a good name for the new board might be "Joe" or "Max" or "Spike"... rather than those girly-man HPSDR names.  ;D

AGC ahead of A/D is useless above 40M. HPSDR has a 20dB pad switched in when you turn the preamp off.

Since it's from Estonia, perhaps Vlad or Igor.
