Title: Long skip on 75 gone for year?
Post by: Bill, KD0HG on March 05, 2011, 10:41:13 AM
The last week or so I haven't been able to hear any east coast activity on 75..
Good sigs from out to 500 miles, and nothing beyond.

Is everyone taking a break, or is long skip done for the season? Did Old Sol kill propagation off?

Don't quite count it out yet Bill, Friday morning (Thursday night after midnight) the band was still coast to coast.

Last night (Friday night) I was on until about midmight.  Florida was blasting in - Warren, W1GUD who lives there was on with a bunch of folks from the NorthEast.  Nothing from the West, but in general there was not that much activity last night anyway.

So, conditions may still be working for some long haul 75 meter activity, but certainly it is not where things were a month ago.

Regards,

Steve

I heard you about 11:30 PM eastern here in Athens, Steve.  About S-6, with an S-4 noise level.  I could tell there were a few other carriers in there, but I was unable to recover any audio.  I could copy you easily though.

Wed. or Thursday night, I heard no signals at all on 3885, so I called CQ.  Had a couple of west coast stations come back, one in CA and the other near Seattle. Readability would have been Q5 all the way if it hadn't been for the digital hash interference that was popping up on frequency every few seconds.

Last night I checked into the Florida AM Net at 7:30 PM and was only using 100W and copied several stations using rangers and even a DX-60. The band was noisy but long.

OK, cool. Will be on later this evening...3885, maybe 3705.

Can't stay up real late, have to feed animals 24X7 at 5 AM before work.

Heck Bill, get up an hour early and you'll have a great time with the early morning groups! 75 meter is a pleasure to operate at 1am till sunrise and there are groups that come and go all morning.
