W2AN is also on 160 meters - 1885 kHz.

W2AN on 80 = W2ZM
W2AN on 160 = W3GMS

That's right. There is more than one station operating as W2AN. Bob, W2ZM is operating at W2AN on 75 meters. Joe, W3GMS is operating as W2AN on 160 meters. Kinda like a multi-multi corntest station except they aren't in the same location.

Bob's as strong as GawdZilla on 3885  - he's ruling the pileup with an iron fist.

An old pro showing 'em how it's done.

I can't until I get home from work.  By then the band might not be long enough for NY.  But I'll still try some 40 I think.

I heard something about an AWA AM QSO PARTY this weekend.

Oh okay I get it, it is like a special event station. QSL tnx :D

I may be back on the air before too long.  The work shop is starting to take shape and I have started work on my first real AM rig, a HT-20.  It is waiting a front panel silk screen job so I may put it aside and work on the amp--then I can be QRV again with the plastic radio.  Then I can talk to you on the air again John.

I'm glad everyone enjoyed working W2AN.  I've never heard so many AM'ers in one night before, ;D .  Bob Raide is a great OT, owns a broadcasting network consisting of stations in upstate NY.  He was running his McMartin BA 2.5k broadcast xmitter and receiving on a 75A4 when I worked him at 8:13 pm Sat. eve. Yes, he did handle the pileup like an old pro.

As mentioned, Bob's normal call is W2ZM and has been a volunteer for many years for the Antique Wireless Assc.  Members range from neophyte hams to stellar and well known broadcast personalities. He was operating from his home in PennYann, NY last night because the AWA is in the process of  moving its museum facilities to a new location across the road.  They sold the old annex facility to the town fire dept., did quite well and are now enjoying setting up in a much larger facility.  You can't go wrong in joining the AWA.

One of my more prized QSL cards is from W2AN with Bob and Bruce Kelly's pix beside the James Millen memorial W1HRX station, contact on 12-11-94 3.86 Mc., both AM and CW mode (cw a/c me getting thru pile-up.)  Transmitter and HRO rcvr designed and made by James Millen of National Radio Co. in 1936.  The card is signed by both Bob and Bruce Kelly.  I was running the "Shoebox 813" by 811a's xmitter at the time.

The Millen station used for that QSO is described on page 42, Dec. 1936 QST. "It was given to AWA in 1985 and restored in 1994 by W2Zm and K3ZJW. "

Nice summary & comments on Bob; he's a big figure in the AM community, and so is "Big Mac."

The AWA QSO party was fun. I got W2AN on 160, 75 and 40. I also worked 20M A.M. for the first time using the Viking Bud at full throttle 135W tuned into the 75M dipole and worked Warren W1GUD.

Fun time..... gud schtuff!
