Title: Military Radio Nomenclature Tag DataBase ? Post by: N8ETQ on January 09, 2011, 12:56:47 AM From the "Find a need and fill it" Department.
I am in need of a Nomenclature Tag for my BC-779 A and i searched for suitable photos on the web with no joy. Then (after 6 or so beers) I thought other guys are probably in need as well. I don't want to create an issue for the Web Master of AM phone or nuthin' but If there was a sticky in the restoration section where guys could just drop a tag on flatbed scanner or submit a nice photo of various tags it could be a real handy. Meter faces too. I did a google search of the phrase : "Military Radio Nomenclature Tag DataBase" with and without quotes and got nuthin' cept RFID crap. I think the World needs this ! And were just the guys to do it! Thoughts /Dan Title: Re: Military Radio Nomenclature Tag DataBase ? Post by: w3jn on January 09, 2011, 01:03:19 AM Good suggestion. If anyone has a scan, by all means drop it in the Restoration section. I've started a thread there for dial and tag scans.
However this is the place to ask questions and discuss etc. The various forums in the Handbook session are for finished projects, writeups, etc. Title: Re: Military Radio Nomenclature Tag DataBase ? Post by: W2XR on January 09, 2011, 01:13:47 AM Hi Dan,
If I understand your post correctly, you are searching for someone to make duplicates, etc., of metal ID/nomenclature tags for your equipment. I have used the following firm with considerable success, for making reproduction ID plates for some TMC equipment that I and others have restored: Aluma Photo Plate 9001 Airport Road Suite 605 Houston, TX 77061 Contact is Mr. Ken Wickman. His phone is 1-866-579-9096. Aluma is not cheap, but the quality of the reproductions is absolutely superb. The reproductions are correct in every way with respect to the original, with excellent attention to detail, including font size and style, color of the plate (typically a semi-gloss black, etc.), reproduction accuracy of the equipment manufacturers monogram, outline dimensions of the plate, etc. They may have a website, but I am not sure. Regardless, give Aluma a call. You may have to borrow a BC-779A ID plate from a fellow ham willing to let you submit it to Aluma. They need either artwork of the ID plate you wish to duplicate, or an original ID plate that they can photographically reproduce. I hope that this helps. Like I stated earlier, I hope I did not misinterpret what information you are looking for. 73, Bruce Title: Re: Military Radio Nomenclature Tag DataBase ? Well not exactly. If we just had good images to work with most folks could muddle through with a printout and resize as needed and laminate it yourself. The metal thing looks pretty but really not needed. A lot of the WWII stuff just had plastic tags anyway. Even those large ones like the top of the TCS gear hold up well with a couple sheets of Lamination on em. (both front and back) 73 /Dan Title: Re: Military Radio Nomenclature Tag DataBase ? Post by: N8ETQ on January 09, 2011, 12:05:29 PM Thanks for setting that up John, I just put a BC-312-M Plastic tag in there, since I don't know what I'm doing I am open to input as to "Best Practice" for this type of thing. I figured out the ruler thing on my own! Then maybe if someone (read John) could compile a short list of pointers and affix that to the thread as well. I just use a free photo viewer called XNview.exe to display modify and resize very simple to use. I hope this takes off as it could be a real asset IMHO 73 /Dan Good suggestion. Post by: w3jn on January 09, 2011, 12:26:06 PM That's good - the ruler gives it a scale so someone can resize to actual, if needed.
Thanks for the suggestion! Title: Re: Military Radio Nomenclature Tag DataBase ? Post by: Vortex Joe - N3IBX on January 09, 2011, 01:54:32 PM Hello All,
Whilst on the subject of Military ID Tags, I'm in dire need of the two front tags for my Hammarlund "RBG". The RBG is the WWII era Military version of the HQ-120X. The original owner removed the ID plates and scribed his name and callsign in bold block lettering on both sides the front panel where the original ID plates were! If anyone knows of a site where I could get a repro, it would be greatly appreciated. Also, If anyone reading this post has a RBG with it's original ID plates on the front panel, could you possibly scan them and send me the JPEG? I'd be glad to reinburse you for your time and trouble. I can be contacted directly at: n3ibx@verizon.net. Tom WA3KLR spent a lot of time doing a very labor intensive electrical restoration to the RBG I have; and it's a really "hot" rx. It even has decent sensitivity on 10M; and is very usable at that band of frequencies. Any help with any of the above requests would be greatly appreciated. My RBG-2 has the nomenclature stamped into the FP. I can take some nice photos of them for you but wonder if your RBG is a real early one.. Headin up to the "waterin' hole" for the phily game, now but will get a-round-tuit later.
