Another successful AM get together.....Lots of shooting....Some great new rifles by Savage....Some cool old rifles, Moisen Nagant 7.62 x 56...Late night Radio operation was marginal on Thurs and Friday...Saturday night showed good propagation but not many stations on after 10 oclock Pacific time...The stew pot was bubbling on the wood stove, A tasty monster Lasagna fed us for 2 days and a good time was had by all....

Why use old 813s when you can get a bigger bang out of NOS 833A's, 845s and 211s?  While you are at it, why not go ahead and deplete your collection of 849s and 204As?  For sharpshooting at a small target, try some 2A3s or Western Electric "tennis ball" tubes. Type 10's and 01-As work well for that purpose, too.

I have a beautiful YC-179 that I'll sell to you for $1000.00. It will hold more bullet holes than a glass tube.

I know this event gets the hairs up on everyone, but have you ever considered that even tubes that are kaput or near flat serve a purpose? They are good for using when building and voltage testing those rigs that you don't want to drop your NOS (insert favorite transmitting tube # here) and chance on ruining on a mishap.

Quit picking on Steve.  I happen to know he uses those tubes after he shoots them.  Vacuum is way overrated.

if you wanna rile folks up, post pics in the audio forums and holler about semiconductor engineers murdering NOS WWII tubes!

I always thought that military specs on ART-13 813's were that they were suppose to be bullet proof.

I guess those government inspectors must have let a few below-spec tubes slip past inspection.

Tubes are sacred as the wife, then the kids, then the grandchildren, then the dog and last but not least, the tubes. To me, it's destroying history. How  much beer is drunk at the party ;D ;D I have more than fifty mercury vapor tubes I could send out to the event as well as some ceramic tubes with beryllium oxide which is 18 times more toxic than cyanide. It you going to shoot to pollute, why not do it up right ??? ???

I heard a  story, fiction or not, where a couple of slopbucketeers decided to taunt the AMers by broadcasting live over the air the sound effects of busting up a collection of large vintage transmitting tubes.

I don't know if even the 3878/92 guys would really be that stupid, given the prices those things fetch on ePay and from audiophools.

Of course, some people waste perfectly good triodes to make lamp bases.

If they don't ruin them or make it imposable to remove form the wood basses, they may make a good tube for use. I've seen 833's, 250TH and 4-1000's made as lamp fixtures.

I like mercury vapor and ceramic tubes.. just send any good ones here. I could use some 816's in particular.

I don't have any of those but I really do have about 50 duds, what to do with them?
