Title: MR VU: ? on your T4X mod
Post by: WD8BIL on November 09, 2010, 03:50:09 PM
Hey Tom,

When you tied the plate and screen together (pins 5 and 6) what did you do with R57? Just leave it in there since it is shorted out??

Bud,

Yep, for the sake of keeping it as stock as possible, just leave R-57 in there in case someone wants to change it back some day.

Did you acquire a new Drake line - what's the dope?

I've had the Drake line for 15 years.

Well, I've got the R4A running with the Softrock Lite 6.2 I.F. converter and it works GREAT!! So, I'm gonna do this mod and put together the "line" as an AM station driving the 8874s!!

The Viking Bud tuned on 75/80 and the T4X on 160 will save time band switching, if nothing else!

Sounds like you'll have it all - especially with the Softrock on the R4A front end. Let me know when it's all running so I can hear it.

On my R4C I did all the Sherwood mods along with this T4XC AM mod. I found I didn't use the Drakes much - it was just a showpiece, so I sold it off about 5 years ago. The T4XC looked and ran brand new. The guy who got it in Texas freaked about how mint it was. Even the VFO was a little stiff from non-use...    But I have a rule - if it's not used, OUT!

Later -

That's where I'm at now. i didn't need two riceboxs so the IC718 went. I'll use the TS430 at the cabin.

I've got some audio amps going away and a bunch of parts/chassis headed to the scrap yard.

Thanks! I'll let'cha know when it's on the air.
