Title: Peanut (power) Termination
Post by: w1vtp on September 26, 2010, 07:19:19 PM
Well, not really peanut power - but the title is close.  It's a termination in a peanut can.  It actually can handle almost 60 watts.  If you put a small fan on it it will handle 60 watts comfortably

I measured the return loss and it's good THROUGH 6 meters!  Not bad for a used peanut can.

The math works out to - you need for 29, 1,500 ohm 2 watt resistors (remember those 2 watt carbon comp resistors?).

I first punched a hole for the UHF connector in the bottom using a tube chassis punch.  Then in true New England conservative style drilled two holes to mount the connector - the center pin had a #12 GA buss wire soldered to it.  Then I proceeded to take an awl and punched a hole for the first resistor, inserted one end through the hole and then soldered the other to the buss.

That's all there is to it.  Now if you can only go to the Unobtainable store and buy those 2 watt resistors  ;D
