Title: Autumn
Post by: KX5JT on September 22, 2010, 09:11:58 AM
Autumnal Equinox tonight - Full Harvest Moon  and we are the closest to Jupiter since 1963 as it is in opposition and will trek very close to the moon tonight.

It's getting to be that time again!

It's a good time to take the telescope out for Jupiter and Uranus. Both are very close to opposition.

It is hot and very dry here in Spartanburg, SC and we actually had a little thunderstorm - but not much rain.

Lately Venus has been very bright, easily visible well before sunset. When I was in NM, it was easy to think it was a low flying plane! Nothing like clear air.

Same temps here as you have up there, Steve. Apparently the mid part of the country and southern states have had record warmth, while the left coast and northeast have been cooler than normal. Winter was cold everywhere, though it seems like forever ago now.

Was going to get the telescope out here for a look at Jupiter, but with the heat and humidity, the atmosphere would be way too wiggly. Did see it once years ago along with 5 of its moons.

Mark your calendar, Fred. Christmas is December 25th this year.

Don't know where in the northeast you're talking about, but hit 90 today with high humidity and a nasty set of thunderstorms rolled through here about 8:30PM.  Roughly same temps for tomorrow and Friday. We've had lots of high heat/humid summer days this past season.

91º here in SE PA. Doesn't seem like fall here either but the produce stands are showing there autumn wares.
