Title: My new family heirloom (knife content)
Post by: ke7trp on August 17, 2010, 05:15:14 PM
Dad just sent me this in the mail today.  Kinda special to me.  I guess its my turn to lock this thing up in a safe somewhere.

This is a Randall Knife made by Bo Randall before he died.  My dad ordered this knife in the late 70s and it was not completed until 1985.  Randall died in 89.  His son is now running the company. There are lots of fake randalls on the net. If you go to the randall knife webpage the current time is 58 months to get your Randall knife.

My dad was fascinated by this knife since Armstrong took one to the moon.  This knife was the first of its kind. You may know this type of knife from the Movie Rambo.

My dad moved 4 times and the randall found him through post office search and sent him a letter saying his knife was done. He forgot he even ordered the thing.  He did not use it much but this exact knife has been to Kuwait once and Iraq twice. In Kuwait it rode across the desert with the marines who destroyed most of Saddams tanks. In Iraq it was with the marines at Basra who fought the worst battle of the war. The second time in Iraq it sat in teh cammand chair directly behind the cammadning general in the control center in Baghdad. Three trips in all in less then 3 years.  My dad wrote his name and phone number on the shielth and it was always returned by a marine if lost. ( I blacked that out)

Enjoy the pics of one of the first survival knives ever made! Inside is fishing line, lots of hooks, A swiss army knife, matches and striking paper.  I will keep it forever.

I don't know the Randall knife but Guy Clark sings a great song about one.  It is interesting that your dad had one, so did his.

My god..  That song really hit home.  Thanks for posting that. I never heard the song before. Now I know what song to play if that time comes.

You are right. A great song. It rings true for a lot of Dads and their sons.

That is a fantastic weapon. It's good to see you have your father's treasure and honor him by it.
