Title: IXYS IXDD414 Going Obsolete
Post by: W1VD on July 06, 2010, 01:28:43 PM
Received notification from Digi Key that the IXDD414 is going obsolete. Not much additional info on their website so called IXYS. They indicate that the IXDD414 will be available for another 2 years so there will be ample opportunity for a lifetime buy.

The good news is that the 414 is being replaced by the 614 ... IXDD614CI for example ... and should be available in the next month or two. IXYS indicates that it's a direct 'fit and function' replacement and the part number change has to do with a new wafer/die.

Digikey hasn't had any in stock for a while.....

Mouser had 213 of them...

And there's other sources as well..

There's other packaging too...

Hmmm... I wonder about mixing 414's with  614's in case a few blow and the rest are good.  Probably a reason to stock up on 414's if using them now.

Reminds me of when they came out wid the 6146B... ;)

There's an ex-league man who once told me this story... He was a roving salesman at GE and saw a diagram for the new 6146A on a chalkboard at RCA.  He immediately told his GE design crew and they came out with the 6146B soon afterwards, trumping the 'A.'     I don't know how true the story is but that's what I was told.

I wouldn't mix IXDD414s and IXDD614s, at least in the same module.  The propagation delay is probably not exactly the same, and there may be other subtle differences.  Other than that, the '614 looks as if it is essentially the same.  The '414 is certainly one of the best drivers around for the price.  I've never had one go bad in any of my rigs.

Regards,

Steve

I bet the new part has a better slew rate driving the load of the gate.
