Title: eLMAC pAINT COLOR
Post by: NR5A on April 17, 2010, 09:27:19 PM
Is it possible to find a shade of spray paint close to the Elmac silver color in a regular store, say Ace Hardware?

Rustoleum Hammertone either light grey or silver; I forget how they list it. You'll be able to tell by the cap color. Buy two cans and do some test shots on scrap so you can get the feel for how it works. Load it up too much and it'll have the texture of an orange with no "hammered" shading effect. I haven't been able to get a slick finish with it; it usually has a little soft dimpling to it. If it absolutely has to be slick, give it 8-10 coats of Rustoleum gloss clear to build it up, wet sand slowly with 800- 1000 grit (no rub throughs or it will get really ugly), and polish with Meguire's. Finish off with Carnuuuuubaaaa! Do it right and don't sit it in direct sunlight or it will burn your eyes out!

Just don't tell Don you're going to paint somthing hammertone! Hi!

Yes indeed Jerry!  I agree with Phil.  I have had great success with my Elmac restorations using Rust-oleum Hammered Finish, 7213 Silver.  Here's some examples of my AF-67 and PRM-6A.  I believe either Home Depot or Loews carries the product.  I also have seen some other brands and colors of Hammered finish.  Dave KA2J
