Newly snowed 4" on ground. Temp 30 degrees and raining in Marlborough, CT. There is ICE (no!!) forming on the antennas. The wind is gusting to 35-40mph.  I was watching the 40M Yagi els bending with ice and wind. Making me gag.  Hope it warms up later.

This Nov/Dec and March/Apr timeframe is the yearly Twilight Zone for ice storms... sigh.

Eastern Iowa Conditions:

Blizzard Conditions, 15" of snow with three-foot drifts, winds gusting to 50 mph, sustained winds of 18 mph.

The old MTD Sowblower worked fine. Was out for two hours snowblowing driveway and sidewalk, once we found it.  :o  Will probably do it again tomorrow. :'(

Phoenix is looking better all the time. ;D

It's 55 degrees and sunny here in central NJ. Took a walk in the back yard. Didn't need a jacket. No snow, no wind, rain long gone. Good time to do antenna work.

Sweet, you Easties.
If those winds kick up, we're going to be drifted in.
I don't know what -10 and a 60 MPH gust adds up to, but no bueno.
The XYL is makinga pot of red chili tonight to bring out the sweats.
JN, you go have a few shots of Ouzo in a nearby taverna on my behalf. LOL

--------------------------

...WIND CHILL WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 AM MST THURSDAY...

WEST WINDS AT 20 TO 40 MPH WILL COMBINE WITH SUBZERO TEMPERATURES
TO CREATE DANGEROUS WIND CHILLS THROUGH EARLY THURSDAY MORNING. GUSTS AS HIGH AS 60 MPH CAN
BE EXPECTED IN THE FRONT RANGE. WIND CHILL VALUES
WILL RANGE FROM 25 BELOW ZERO TO 50 BELOW. AT THESE TEMPERATURES FROSTBITE CAN OCCUR ON EXPOSED
SKIN IN 5 TO 10 MINUTES. THE WINDS WILL CONTINUE INTO THURSDAY BUT
TEMPERATURES WILL BE WARMING.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A WIND CHILL WARNING MEANS THE COMBINATION OF VERY COLD AIR AND
STRONG WINDS WILL CREATE DANGEROUSLY LOW WIND CHILL VALUES. THIS
WILL RESULT IN FROST BITE AND LEAD TO HYPOTHERMIA OR DEATH IN A
SHORT TIME IF PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT TAKEN.

We've got four vehicles, Dave. My daughter drives an '07 Chevy Malibu FWD Flex-fuel, which starts fine on $2.00/gal 85% ethanol, no freezeups on alcohol fuel, my F-250 diesel has a block heater so I plug it in overnight. Starts OK, and warm in a few minutes. The wife's Jeep grunts a lot, but still starts- So far.

It's been nasty, eventually this WX is going to make it to the east. It's been 30 degrees or more below normal all week in the western CONUS. (Thanks, Al Gore)

Right now it's zero F out there and a good wind out of the west. Nastier than when I used to live in the Chicago area..

We keep our cell phones on so we can rescue each other if needed. I saw a lot of cars in the ditch this morning.

It's a 2 mile drive down an unimproved ranch road to get to the pavement, which is ice-packed right now.

supposed to get down near zero here by morning.  got home and walked around to the back of the house to see my boys all standing tall keeping the wires aloft--thought for a minute that the 15 foot stinger on top of the 75 m. vertical had blown off but moved to a different viewing point and it was there.  Gave them a thumbs up and went inside.

Well I sure appreciate all that nice cool Canada dry air that comes down here and pushes out the lousy humid wet air we get sometimes in the winter.  Given the choice between 35 F and wind and rain and slop and zero and sun and still dry air I'll take the latter hands down.  The cold I can deal with, it's the raw wet junk and wind that gets me.  I've done antenna work for several days when it was 5 F but it was sunny and dry.  -5 F (-20 C) here this morning.
