Title: Old style microphone connector
Post by: Barrie on November 26, 2009, 02:18:56 PM
I'm in need of a microphone connector.  I don't know what it's called.  It's vaguely similar to a PL-259, but without the pin.

Instead of a center pin, it has a solder glob right in the center of insulating material.  It threads onto the mating connector on the chassis.  It's two connector.  The outer portion is ground.

What's the name of this connector?

My old catalogs call it a "single button" connector. My DX-100 and some of my test equipment uses that connector.

I've seen others make a button connector from a PL-259.

Thanks!

That "two button" description led me to a boatanchor site with a bunch of information, including the part number.

Mouser has them in stock, so I'll be able to order tomorrow.

I know the company make lots of different connectors, but I've always seen them referred to as "Amphenol plugs".

There is one on the headphone connector on the old CD radiation survey meters. I always grab any of those plugs when I can.

I believe you are refering to the button microphone connector.  I also heard them called a "dot connector".  Mouser has them.

Switchcraft makes them.... part number 2501F

see http://www.switchcraft.com/products/connectors-53b.html (http://www.switchcraft.com/products/connectors-53b.html)

My DX-60 and Viking I use it.

Fred:

That's what I'm working on, a Bogen PA amp, using a pair of 807s!

Will make a nice speech amp once I drain the hum out.

A pretty handy connector as the cable end is bi-gendered. You can unscrew the retaining nut from the connector and join up with another cable end to end.

PM is fixed. Will get a few out in the mail. Sorry abt the mix-up.
