Title: SDR 66AD "quick & dirty" enclosure
Post by: WBear2GCR on October 26, 2009, 05:18:40 PM

So, I got gifted an SDR66AD software defined receiver. A 2.5" square board. Neat.

Still having some trouble getting software to install, but should be able to work that out.

So while chatting on 75m over the weekend I fab'd this copper PCB enclosure, didn't quite come out as planned because I slightly undercut the pieces.  >:( Otherwise it was FB. The rear perf was the solution to not really doing enough planning or forethought - it is held on by 4 virgin silver plated fuse clips soldered to the perf. It is slightly asymmetrical due to the placement of the late in the process inclusion of the screws and 3/4" aluminum 4-40 standoffs... but it all turned out well... "pocket sized"!

I was thinking I need a hard cigarette box to mount it in??

Did you install that net framework they talked about?

Yes... finally.

I needed to download the "complete" version 3.5 and then get the debug addon...
then when I tried to install Power SDR (the thing the Flecks Raydeeoh comes with) it wants V1.1!!! Bizzare. Can't imagine that something will install with 1.1 and will not with 3.5. Welcome to the word of Muckrocrap Shaftware??

Won't know if the box will operate until the SMA to BNC 'dapters arrive hopefully before Frydei...

This is where that one came from

W1IA I think built one and is happy with it.  Maybe at some point he'll jump in here and let us know what he thinks of it.

That seems to be the problem with this new generation of SDR and compooters. We have to sit down and understand the setup and config the puter....THEN the fun begins. I guess your experience will be like my little SDR SoftRock Lite I.F. board running the FLEX software.
A lot of magical things take place. A very different experience with radio. It's minus the feel of knobs and the smell of toobs, though.

here at BEAR labs we are developing a knob and tube hardware front end for all SDRs... it will have several tubes with lit filaments visible from the front panel and multiple knobs that may or may not actually have any effect... should solve that problem...
