Title: R390A Service
Post by: flintstone mop on September 23, 2009, 09:32:44 AM
I am in a process of getting my R390A back to factory or better specs.
Rick Mish, who has been a good servicer and good reputation with the R390 and A's is on a big project and is not taking any work.
I need two I.F. strips serviced. One has an AGC problem and the other just needs TLC and alignment. Bandpass needs to be checked or repaired on both. The Panadaptor feature from the SoftRock looks lopsided when I have the 8kc filter selected.
I do not have the proper test setup to properly check or align or repair I.F. strips.

Anyone know where I can get these strips serviced?
Chuck Ripple back to servicing again?

Thanks

Fred

Why can't you tune it with a softrock and your VFO as a source?

Well something would have to generate a reliable A.M. signal to occupy the bandwidth of the strip and be able to troubleshoot if it's alignment or a filter heading south. Or a sweep generator.
I don't have the time to second guess why there's an A.G.C. problem in the one strip. Too many things linked to each other that use the AGC line and can influence AGC voltage. I have never been good at tearing a multi-layer system apart to get to the cause of the trouble.
Another approach is to go searchin for a known good strip. Maybe in my retirement years I'll sit down with these things and get one good one working.

I don't think Howard works on these and it would be two or more years before he could.

I could get into it over the snow months. I have a fully self restored 390A that can be used. I havent used it in a few years.
