Title: Any Clegg 22'er Mark II owners?
Post by: WA2ONK on September 06, 2009, 10:53:50 PM
Picked up a Clegg 22'er Mark II,  2mtr AM xceiver, should have gone with my original instinct, and not buy it!  I have some other 2m AM gear but can't scare up any activity in the area.

Anyway, xmit very erratic and low power. Looks like some one got into it and removed the neutralizing gimmick cap. Any one have such a beast and can give me a idea of the physical size of the gimmick for starters? Not much in the manual about it's make up.

The problem could possibly be the 8150 compactron amplifier tube. I don't have one of those in the stash to see if that's the problem.

Rx is solid state and is pretty sensitive.

Chuck..

I've got a couple here, Chuck. AM and FM versions. I'll try to take a look later tonight, otherwise tomorrow.

Well, not that it'll make any difference, but both of my rigs are the FM version. Yanked the cover off the parts rig, found what looks to be tinned solder wick or some other braided STRAP (strap) soldered to the post next to the tube. Looks to be roughly 1/4" wide and about 2.5 inches tall when all the bends are figured in. It's angled inward above the tube base, and also backward so that it follows along side the tube.

The donor rig is pretty grubby, so I'll haul out the one I got from K2ORS and take some shots of it, then post them here.
