This isn't the first time one of these double headed D-104's was offered on Ebay. Last year I remember seeing one with a blue base and another with a blueish-green base. Don't remember if they had any lights. Maybe the seller just cobbles them together in his basement from flea market/yard sale acquisitions. Got to respect the entrepreneur aspect and creativeness of the seller.

These two D104's remind me of the hype made years ago concerning two in-phase vertical antennas on cars and motorcycles for CB, with mfgrs stating twice as much radiation. And on CB frequencies the spacing is too short to even obtain any gain in the direction broadside to the plane between the antennas. What a sham that was and still is!

Don't tell that to a trucker that has them.  Sheez how mad they can get.

A similar picture just appeared in the CQ VHF Magazine Issue Summer 2009. It's in an article called Amateur Radio and the Cosmos Part 1 - From Our Meager Beginnings, page 15. The receiver (Collins 75A4 w/bigwheel tuning) in this picture belong to Walt, W2CXY (sk), which was part of Walt's historic meteor-scatter and moonbounce station of the 50's.

I believe Clark (ke7trp) has some National with a PAIR of steering wheels on it.

I always imagined it as the RX for people on both sides of the pond...

I could see putting Two G-Stand Heads together or actually angle them to a center so many inches away. With the differing Crystal responses it could prove to be a positive. Interesting Project Good Job to the Builder well Done Nice an Clean Lines.
