Title: You Too Can Be a 'DX Big Gun' Like K1JJ
Post by: Todd, KA1KAQ on July 15, 2009, 08:03:15 PM
Yes, you too can run the piles ups and be a Channel Master like Tom Vu, Fabio, Jacques, Sgt. Anderson and the rest of the crew! Impress your radio buddies. Meet women easily! Make new friends! Be the envy of ALL amateur radio! You simply need the correct inspiration.

Came across this gem in the vast KAQ Radio Archives (translation: endless boxes of books, papers, and things like this) and was compelled to share it. The testimonials are most inspiring!

Where is page 3 with the multiband feed using 5 coax cables. That is the real secret high performance set up.

Good find, Todd!

Yep, Gotham was the Billy Mays of ham radio back in the 50's-60's... ;D

One of these days I'm gonna put up a Gotham vertical the right way with a radial field just to come full circle and actually make a contact.

I still have emotional scars from calling CQ on 3716 for three straight days with no answers in Nov, 1964.   Gotham really busted my stones.

Tom,
You need to mount it on top of a tower with 4 radials and really impress the guys on 3716

The ad claims that K4ZRA worked 100 stations in 44 countries (no band specified) with a coax-fed 23 foot pipe stuck in the ground? Well...it was 1959, the height of the mother of all sunspot cycles...and that kind of DX might be possible on 10 meters....

Several  DX awards were mentioned. WAJAD, ADXC, and WAVE.  Does anyone remember what these awards signified and who issued them?
