Title: JA AM
Post by: Barrie on May 08, 2009, 09:35:25 PM
I've contacted Tim, JR3TVH regarding his desire to work NA on 40M AM.

I'm more than willing to give it a try from here in Montana.  I've got a fair amount of power, and I'm on the side of a mountain with a good shot to JA.

He wants to sked at 12:00Z.  Looking at a grayline map, he will be in daylight at that time, and so will I.

If we were to sked at 10:00, or 11:00Z, we'd both be in grayline.

I would think that we'd have a better chance at those earlier hours.

What say the learned group?

Barrie,

For your QTH, my propagation program came up with:

1230 - 1330 Zulu for 40 meters,
26 dB S/N ratio,
8 degrees elevation (ouch),
(3) F2 hops.

8 degrees as in takeoff angle of the dangle? That's pretty low.  :-\

Thanks for the info.

Doesn't look too promising, especially since he's only running 50 watts.

I do remember working Japan when I was a kid, in the early 1950s, with my 25 watts, on CW.
