Title: While shopping for something to make Easter dinner..........
Post by: k3zrf on April 12, 2009, 02:15:05 PM
Just at my local Stop n Shop going down the canned goods isle I spied this can of 'Spotted Dick'.

Not for this Easter meal!!

Can anyone tell me what this stuff is?

Nothing to describe it on the Heinz site.

Maybe use the 20 oz can for winding baluns,

Quote
Spotted dick is a steamed suet pudding containing dried fruit (usually currants), commonly served with either custard or butter and brown sugar. Spotted refers to the dried fruit (which resemble spots) and Dick may be a contraction/corruption of the word pudding (from the last syllable) or possibly a corruption of the word dough. Another explanation offered for the latter half of the name is that it comes from the German word for "thick," in reference to the thickened suet mixture. There are many nicknames for a Spotted Dick including "Spotted Richard", "Dick in a box", "Dotted Lloyd", "Mixey Dick", "Dick with a dot" and "Dickie Burton" as well as many others. It is a cultural part of English Cuisine.

Used to have that years ago, at Eaton's Department Store, in Montreal.   Served hot, with  custard over it, it's  a deliciously sweet  concoction of thick cake, nuts, fruit, etc.  Almost like a thick hot fruit cake, with custard.  They called it  "Steamed Pudding".   Quite yummy, actually.  It's  Brit thing.

Reminds me of a PC Expo I went to.  There was this giant hanging sign over the ViaGrafix software booth.  My friend started laughing hysterically.  When SHE looked at the sign, she saw Viagra fix.
